Dose guidance
Switching from injections to Wegovy pills
If you are currently taking Wegovy 7.2mg, switching to the 25mg tablet may be possible after a clinical review. Tablets may not match the highest weight loss outcomes seen with the most effective injectable options.
The 25mg tablet may give results closer to Wegovy 2.4mg injections and may suit some patients for long-term weight maintenance.
Patients switching from Mounjaro should usually restart with the Wegovy 1.5mg tablet only, unless a prescriber advises otherwise.
This is guidance only. A clinician must review your dose, response, side effects and suitability before approving any switch.
Pre-order guidance
Who can pre-order the 1.5mg Wegovy pill?
The 1.5mg Wegovy tablet is the starting dose. It may be suitable for people starting treatment or for patients moving from selected injectable weight loss treatments after a clinical review.
New to treatment
For patients who are beginning a weight loss treatment pathway and meet the required clinical eligibility criteria.
Switching from Mounjaro
Patients using Mounjaro may be able to change to a tablet pathway, depending on treatment history, timing and prescriber advice.

Patients using the Wegovy injection starting dose may be able to move to the tablet starting dose if it is clinically appropriate.
View switching guideImportant information about Wegovy tablets
If you currently use another weight loss medication, allow enough time between ordering and dispatch before planning a switch. A 7-day gap is usually needed between weight loss injections and tablets, but your prescriber will confirm the safest timing for you.
Patients on higher Wegovy injection doses may be able to switch to an equivalent tablet dose once higher tablet strengths are released.

What is the Wegovy pill?
The Wegovy pill is a once-daily weight loss tablet for adults who are overweight or obese. It may be a useful option for people who dislike needles, find injection pens difficult, have injection-site reactions or simply prefer a tablet.
The Wegovy pill contains semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist that can help:
Reduce appetite
Increase feelings of fullness
Slow stomach emptying
Support long-term weight management
Although the tablet is new as a weight management option, semaglutide is not new. It is the same active ingredient used in Wegovy injections.
Unlike traditional weight loss tablets, it works on similar biological pathways to injectable GLP-1 medicines such as Wegovy injections and Mounjaro. The main difference is that semaglutide is taken as a daily morning tablet rather than a weekly injection.
Treatment starts at the lowest dose and is increased gradually before reaching the 25mg maintenance dose. Like all GLP-1 treatments, it works best alongside healthy lifestyle changes and must be taken correctly to support the best results.
What is the difference between the Wegovy pill and injection?
Both forms contain semaglutide and work in a similar way, but there are practical differences when deciding between a tablet and an injection.

When will the Wegovy pill be available in the UK?
The Wegovy pill has been approved by the MHRA and is expected to become available in early July 2026. You can pre-order the 1.5mg starting dose now, with higher strengths expected later when they become available.
Who is the Wegovy pill suitable for?
The Wegovy pill may be particularly appealing if you:
Dislike injections or have a needle phobia
Have avoided GLP-1 treatment because it involved injections
Experience ongoing injection-site reactions with injectable GLP-1 medicines
Have work, lifestyle or travel routines that make weekly injections less practical
Prefer taking a daily tablet instead of using injection pens
Wegovy pills are prescription-only, so suitability must be assessed by a clinician through an online consultation before treatment can be prescribed.
Patients usually need a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI of 27 or above with a weight-related health condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol or type 2 diabetes. Meeting BMI criteria alone does not automatically mean semaglutide is suitable.
Who should not take the Wegovy pill?
Wegovy tablets are not suitable for everyone and should not be used:
During pregnancy or breastfeeding
Alongside other GLP-1 medicines such as Mounjaro or Wegovy injections
By children or adolescents under 18
By people who have previously had an allergic reaction to semaglutide
Your clinician will also review your medical conditions and current medicines before prescribing. Always read the Patient Information Leaflet supplied with your medicine.
Can I switch from Wegovy injections to Wegovy pills?
Yes, switching may be possible. Patients already on Wegovy 2.4mg for at least one month may be able to switch to the 25mg tablet, while patients on lower injection doses may need a lower tablet strength and gradual escalation. Your prescriber will advise based on your dose, response and tolerability.
Advisory information: menopausal women taking HRT should discuss GLP-1 treatment with their GP or prescribing doctor, as oral oestrogen and progesterone requirements may need review after starting or changing dose.
